@Abby The error may not be SE but 5E - Drain Error. Have a think about what it's doing or more the case what it's not doing when the error occurs.
Check the drain hose isn't kinked or blocked together with the waste socket.

Whirlpool washing machine AWO 5761

Stainless steel Drum is loose guess indicating either failed bearing or spider. Have completely stripped the washer and split the outer plastic drum but the drive shaft for the inner drum is tight on the bearing. Will not move.

Is there anything holding the shaft other than the nut for the drive pulley?

Hi Spare Parts Pro
I originally posted in July (copy at bottom). Today is first chance I have had to look at the problem (long story).
I have checked the sump and the pipes running from/to it and all appear to be clear. Today I took of the left side panel exposing the water inlet and pressure chamber. Both appear clean and free from blockages.
I then decided to switch on and see what happened.
Firstly the water flowed in however the blue coloured bar started to move in and out activating the micro-switch. Also noted that the four wash cycle switches (70, 60, 50 & 35) were illuminated but 70 was a lot dimmer than others.
After a short while all the lights went out and the blue bar went to normal position releasing the micro-switch. There was water flowing in (filled up sump and base to depth approx 1”) and also pumping out. Again there were no apparent obstructions.
Machine sounded as though it was going through a cycle with spray arms rotating etc. The only difference was flow of water did not stop (in normal cycle there are breaks when I assume water is brought to temperature).
After approx 1 ½ hrs there was a buzzing from the module control (not the beep you get at end of programme). It was intermittent at first then continuous. The blue bar had started connecting with the micro-switch again.
At that point I switched off and noticed the faint “electrical” burning smell, as before.

Hi, have Neff S5453x1GB/50. A week ago seemed to be stuck in continuous drain mode. Checked and found part of the “fine” filter had had disintergrated and small pieces of plastic cleared from pump. Checked base and no water there.
Now it is continually filling and draining. Water is not getting hot and never completes a cycle.
Tried to reset but no joy. The 35c, 50c and 65c are all lit but 70c not lit.
There is also a very faint smell of burning.

@Anthony – The continuose filing and emptying could be down to the fact that the feed pipe into the sump is partially blocked so then the antiflood trips in and sets off the drain pump. Remove the feed hose from the bottom of the water level metering tank. It runs under into the sump. Flush it out and then retry it. All the other problems you speak about will probably solve them selves.)

There are no codes flashing on the control panel and the water is on and the door is closing; the selector knob turns but the red light will not move off the first setting (cotton) When you press the selector knob start button to start the cycle, nothing happens.

Check that the water isolating valve has not been turned off or is only slightly open.
At the end of the inlet water hose there is an inline filter, look for debris in the filter and clean it.
It sounds like your machine is timing out on fill.

You need to look for errro codes or flashing lights from thre control panel. This will normally tell you what the problem might be.
Check that the door is closed correctly and that the water is turned on.

Establish whether or not the sprayarms are turning by placing them in a straight line say front to back. When you start a cycle after a few minutes open the door and check that the arms have moved.
The tablet not dissolving is a different issue.
Once you know your wash pump is working, check that the water is indeed being heated up. If it is not then this could be the reason the tablet is not dissolving.

Hi there,
I have a technik SE6TIE2GB, the problem seems to be no water getting through to the two blades that spin around, the isolation tap is open and the dishwasher sounds like it is working but pots stay dirty and the tablet is not disolving any ideas please.

Bren - You might like to check your model number. Look at the back of the drum. The back plate should be held on with a steel band. Id so then this is an easy bearing change.

Matt - Expect to pay around £25 for the bearing set, we have one on our offers page http://www.keepingupappliances.com/repair-help/offers/zanussi-bearing-set/
There may be oth er things wrong with your appliance that you won't know until you strip it down.
Bearing spiders can easily break, this is the part that supports the drum.
If you want to save yourself a few quid then have a go at fixing it but don't expect to have it done in one afternoon.
First time you attempt a bearing change it can easily roll into days but good luck.

Chris - You need to determine which of the two pumps are making the humming noise. Pull the dishwasher out on to the floor and take both side panels off. Now run it through a cycle. Lay on the floor so you can listen out for the noises it makes. My guess is the wash pump is making the humming noise. If it is not blocked by debris then it is almost always the capacitor. That's the cylindrical thing mounted on the side of the motor.
Replace that with a like for like value and you are good to go.

Hi, I have a problem with my Teka DW55 dishwasher, 3 years old. Drains, fills, but then when expected to begin wash just hums. I followed common advice and blown down the pressure switch tube - this appeared to temprarily solve the problem for a few washes, and then would work intermittently, but now back to playimng dead permanently. Just hums at wash stage, will go right through cycle but never washes at any point. Does this sound like a faulty pump (£190 replacement!) or faulty pressure switch please ? If it's the pump then presumably beyond economical repair.
Cheers,
Chris.

I have a Zanussi Aquacycle 1000, model FLA1002W - it does a greta job washing clothes, but recently has developed a bearing noise on spin. I have been quoted £180 to fix it. Question is whether this sounds reasonable? and also what element of that is likely to be parts? I know I would be capabe of fixing it myself and it would be worth it if the parts are a small element of the £180 - I have had a quick look inside by removing the top - the first thing that strikes me is the body of the appliace appears to be a one piece. Is the drum accessed through the top or does the body unbolt at the bottom and lift off as a cube?

Fe code, had the same problem with my samsung wd7704c8 Washer Dryer, went to the service agents, they said it stood for Fan Error (not faulty power supply as some sites say). This machine suffers very badly from a build up of fluff, I know it;s supposed to flush the fluff out, but it doesn;t. Not being willing to pay the rediculous call out charges from the repair man, I did it myself. Remove the top of the machine, you will see the fan/heat box. Remove all it's screws and you will see the fan and heating elements, it was really obvious what the problem was, fluff, great gobs of it. Vacuum it all out, while you are at it, pull the big rubber hose off the back of the bowl and dig out the wet fluff there, when finished you will probably have a fluff bundle about the size of a hamster. Re-assemble and you are good to go. All within the capability of a home handy man/woman.

You can't always tell from the model number whether or not you have a 30 or 35 mm drum shaft. Strip it down and measure it is the only option.

The gouging is the wear mark from the seal. Try and work out the depth of the groove. More than 0.5mm and it is damaged.
This is where the water has passsed the seal and corroded the bearings. A new seal may fix the problem short term but eventually the water will pass again.
The spider bolts are fitted with thread lock and are unlikely to fail when you loosen them.

Hi, I have an LG WM1485FHD. Have removed the drum and cleaned up in preparation for fitting a new set of seals. The drum shaft looks OK (a little discoloured) where the two bearings sit, however the collar where the rubber seal sits there is some gouging. Not sure if this is inside or outside or even under the rubber once fitted. Didnt want to replace the spider if possible so was looking for some honest advice. Many thanks, Toby. If I have to remove them, are the bolts holding holding the spider in place likely to shear?

Hi.....I have got a 2 year old Hotpoint WDF740PUK which sounds like a jet engine when it's at full spin which, together with vertical play on drum at the door, makes me suspect the drum bearings. I've got a mech eng background and willing to attempt replacement before shelling out for a new machine. Is it possible to replace the bearings on this? If so do you have the part codes & the size 30mm or 35mm? Thanks in advance.

We have a Bosch dishwasher (not sure what model) about 2-3 yrs old. The Check Water light keeps coming on. Tried tilting it back several times to let water drain, but light still comes on about 10 seconds after starting. Have reset it many times as well but still not working. Have cleaned all filters and checked spray arms. Any advice would be good.

In the error codes listed in this article it refers to 3E as a motor fault. The Hall Sensor problem is to do with the tacho,. This is a small device on the back of the motor that measures the speed of the motor. This is where you need to be looking. Check the coil of the device for continuity and if the little magnet inside it has broken up.

Try disconnecting the belt and see if the program will run through a complete cycle. My guess is the problem lies elsewhere.

You are referring to the salt container. This is OK to have it full of water. Your check water fault is the intake water. Either the isolating valve is off or the inline filter is blocked.

my samsung sw70x1 does not switch on. when ON button is pressed it chimes and some leds light but everything goes off when the finger is taken out from the ON /OFF key. It doesn't hold the power. This happened after I i took the machine(drum) off to repair some rust on the metal frame. I am sure I fixed everything as they were before. Is it due to a problem in control PCB? (I suspect that because some leds didn,t work even before i dismantled it)-but machine worked satisfactorily) Great if someone could give suggestions /tips. Also, can it be the water level sensor? Thanks sb

Hi, I had a slimline Bosch dishwasher stuck in the pump mode. The cause was that a tool dropped down; cut and dead shorted an extension lead whilst working in my garage. I reset the cosumer board twice prior to realising what caused the power failure. This power failure caused the dishwasher to fail continuing the programme. On finding your web site; as advised I pulled the machine out and tipped it over to 45 degrees. A small spillage occured. However on righting the machine back vertically I then restarted the machine and it went right through the cycle. My question is "should I be concerned about the waste water that spilled out of the bottom? Incidently thanks for the invaluable advice that you gave other enquirers. Gareth.

Hi, I have a Bosch dishawasher and seem to be receiving the error message "check water". i unscrewed the cap at the bottom of the dishwasher (in the inside) and this seems to be full to the top with water. Any ideas if this is the problem and if so how to get rid of this water?

Thanks

@Sue - Turn the isolator off and disconnect the hose from the back of the machine. Check the inline filter is not blocked, now direct the hose into a bucket and turn on the water. Do you have good flow? If yes then you need to be looking at the inlet solenoid valve if no then find out why you have low water pressure.

The end of the shaft has two flats on it and the pulley wheel sits on that so it just requires a bit of brute force, assuming of course you have the end screw out. Alternatively once you have split the outer drum in half and you are ready to drop the inner drum out, you can drive the shaft through the pulley just remember to loosely fit the screw back into the end of the shaft so as to save the thread in the end of the shaft.

@Kenneth - You may have a pressure switch that is stuck or at least the tube leading to the switch is blocked with debris. Remove the tube from the switch and blow down it.

@Phil - I'm not familiar with 'FE' so I can't help you. I'm sure one of our many readers will butt in when they have an answer.
Having said that on a Dryer 'FE' can mean abnormal power frequency so perhaps you have an issue with your power supply or ring main.

@Quinn - Put a volt meter across the terminals of your solenoid at the time it should open. If you get volts then the valve must be sticking. If so you can only replace it.

@alan - No spin could be a problem with the tacho or the motor brushes. If the brushes are worn it may have affected the power module hence the erratic timer motions. Try check the motor first.

@mohd - From memory code 'dE' is a door lock error. Go back and read the codes at the top of this article and then search this page for other replys in relation to 'dE'.
If you are not familiar with using your browser, I use Firefox, press Ctrl + F to search for words on a page. Another little trick is search for words within a web site. Again I use google for this. In the search box type your search word but this time add in the domain name like this.

@sb - Not sure I fully understand but from what you are saying you loose power when you press the on off button. It sounds as if you have a faulty power button which can be checked using a multimeter.

@Jeyer - When deciphering between drum bearings or motor brushes the best way is to remove the drive belt from the motor so that they turn independantly. Now when you turn the drum and it still rumbles you know for sure the bearings are gone.
If you can afford to be without your washing machine then there is no reason why you can't try fix this your self. If it goes wrong you have lost nothing.
On the other hand if your household can not function with out the washer then get someone in to fix it for you.

@Steve - You are going to need two bearings and a drum shaft seal at minimum. If after you have stripped the machine down you find that the drum shaft has worn then you need to replace the drum spider as well so really in answer to your question you will only really know what is needed once you have stripped your machine down.

i have a zanussi ZWF1241W and when the drum is manually is turned by me from inside, it makes a grinding sound. are you able to tell me if it's the bearings that's going or the brushes. is this problem something i could try and fix myself now or should i wait til it's gone altogether. i am quite handy when fixing things but i have never done a washing machine before. thanks

I have an Indesit evolution WE16 that has just thrown it's belt off and the drum is making a grating noise, which makes me think it's a bearing problem. Is this the case and can it be repaired.

Hi, I have a SW50USP that recently refuses to open the hot tap. There are no error codes and as far as I can tell the washing machine thinks it is filling up with hot water. What would be the most likely reason? A busted valve solenoid?

Thanks

Hi, please am still awaiting your response on the FE error. i happen to have same error code on my samsung air wash WD-J1225R. My washing shows up this error at the very last spin of any wash time, but would run fine at 400rpm. thanks

I have a Bosch Classixx Slimline dishwasher which seems to be stuck part way through a programme (I think it is very near the end, as the dishes seemed clean and almost dry). All the lights on the control panel are off and when the power is on the machine seems to continue recirculating the water within the machine. I added additional water to the machine and can confirm that it is recirculated. The problem seems to be that the programme does not know it has to finish. It seems to be stuck in some form of limbo. I have tipped the machine back, but have seen no evidence of any water draining out. It may be worth mentioning that we have been away for a couple of weeks and this problem seems to have occured on the second or third wash since our return. Does this sound like a flow switch problem or do I need a new control board (or other part)?

Any advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

@Malcolm - Intermittant faults are hard to track down. You could try changing the interlock but any faults will be reported in an error code from the front control panel.

Hi, i have same error on my machine. dont know why samsung is not saying anything. what if we try keeping the machine far from d wall might just help let in some more air into the machine. mine spin at 400rpm comfortably. but would not do same at 800 and above

@Martin - The basics for doing this bearing change are written in the article above. Remove the complete drum assembly is what you are after and then split the drum in half. Make a note of what size of shaft your drum spider is using. It is either 30mm or 35mm. Once you know this you can order the correct bearing set.

@Nick - Simple solution to the antiflood thingy is pull the dishwasher out onto the floor and tilt the machine back about 45deg. Place a towel on the floor at the back to catch the water. Don't be tempted to reply back and say that you can't do that because 'mine is integrated'.

@Chris - Often 4E is a bit of a contradiction in terms of no fill in time allowed. If the pressure switch is stuck on low then the solenoid will remain open until such time that the pressure switch goes high. Use your multimeter to figure out the switching on the pressure switch. One wire will be common across high and low switch. Once you have that figured use a loop wire to simulate the high and low to see if it switches the solenoid off.
If not then trace the solenoid wires back to the control board and check the edge connectors other than that you may have to consider the board faulty.

@David - Not sure what over ride the program is, I didn't think that was possible but the stop start of the drain pump is because the water level indicator is tripping in an out because the water can pass into the sump quick enough. Clear out the delivery tube that runs from the level indicator to the sump.

@Steph - Once the bearingsa have been replaced the belt slip will cure itself. Let me know the model number so I can advise what bearing kit is required. Huge drum out operation needed here so plenty of time and patience required.

I have a Bosch DLX Series dishwasher Model SHX36L06UC. The unit has been working great for sometime. Tonight it started to be stuck in drain mode. We have checked for obstructions to the drain hose and we seem to have good flow. We have a soft water system with a chlorine filter that has been running on this dishwasher for at least 3 years of our 5 years or so of ownership. We tried the hold down three seconds on the cancel drain option to no avail. The drain seems to be running even with the door open which seems unusual. We also tried turning off the breaker to the dishwasher for 10 minutes then turned the breaker back on only to have the drain cycle continue. I have read about this anti-flood device but it is still not clear to me how to even get to this device. Is there a reset on the computer or a way to reset the anti-flood without calling out a technician? Thank you.

@Lina - Sorry but I'm not quite sure what you are referring to. If you are saying that the door lock light is on and you can't open the door then either you still have water in the tub or a faulty door interlock. You could try draining through the filter at the bottom or think about getting a new interlock.

@Cassie - I think we mention something about this in a previous reply further down this page. It's to do with the feed pipe from the water intake to sump. It gets blocked with debris and can't deliver the water fast enough so triggers the overfill switch.

Yet another 4E problem on a J845. 30 Min cycle: Found only prewash water running briefly. Mains power on wash solenoid terminals but no flow. Wash solenoid meters open circuit, prewash solenoid is 4.6 Kohm. Swapped connectors on the two valves to test if board could drive which it could it hoping that I could simply swap connectors and give up the prewash function.

Initial hopes were dashed when the machine simply continued to fill until it generated a OE error for overflow, the drain pump started but surprisingly the cold water fill valve contined to be open (mains applied). Pausing did not close the valve, had to power off at the wall to get valve to close. Thought it could be the pressure switch.sensor. However no error message from "frequency", and the pressure switch seems to detect and cut off when you drain the machine. Any suggestions on how to test the pressure switch, ie. a test sequence to report level similar to the thermistor test?

How is the overflow error oE detected? From the pressure switch/sensor?
I have removed the hose and have blown out to ensure that the line is not blocked.

If the controller board needs replacing, then the machine is approaching "beyond economic repair". Australia (AUD) prices Board $180, pressure switch $40 cold water valve $60.

Any insights appreciated.
Regards and thanks for an informative forum,
Chris

Someone is advertising a Samsung W/D Combo & has this to say' (** The washer will start a cycle, but eventually get a "b6" error, aborting the cycle. Whatever the issue is, I don't think it would take much to fix. It could be that the machine was just out of balance. I really don't know. ***)
Wondering if you can help answer this question. I will purchase it as long as it's not a big problem or expense to fix!

I know this is from an old post, but I had a H2 fault on my P1453 machine and it turned out that a blue cable from the heater had snapped off. It appears this can happen if your machine moves an excessive amount. All I needed to rectify the fault was a new connector and some crimps. Hope this helps you with any searches.

Hi there,
I have a Tecnik dishwasher TKD 795/3 SE6TIE2GB
first problem was that I had to fill it manualy with water as none was getting through the machine, took theside off and found all the tubes were gunged up, cleaned all the pipes/inlets and now machine fills.

Machine will fill and also empty if i over-ride the program but when program runs it lets water in and then all I can hear is the pump run and stop, run and stop, almost sounds like an air blockage but I have been unable to remove air or get it to go beyond this stage unless i over-ride the program to make it empty.

Thanks for any advice

@nizar - You could rty checking if the heater element has gone open circuit or make a note of any flashin lights from the front control panel.

@SimonH - You probably have a sticking pressure switch. Remove the tube at the pressure switch end nd blow down it to remove any residue in the pipe. Use a multimeter to check that the pressure switch can open and close when you pressurise it.

Miele 5205 condenser dryer. Machine sounds fine and is working perfectly except it has developed a small problem. When you push the button for it to run it sometimes starts and performs normally, then it stops and the door pops open. Other times it just runs up the heater, the drum and ventilation fan do not come on and again, the door opens.
Do you know why this is happening?

Hi, I have a Bosch Exxcel Dishwasher Auto Option SGS56E02GB/45 which has been constantly filling and draining for the past 3 hours. The light up displays to indicate cycle/program etc has completly lighten upand the time indicator has two small dots. I have tried reseting the dishwasher however its still doing the same thing when i turn the dishwasher back on- it starts filling and draining and gradually all the display panel lights up. Please help as I have no idea what to do and would be grateful for any advice you could give me.
Thanks in advance
